It was a beautiful summer evening when I met Tassia and Leo at the Toronto Island Ferry for our evening engagement shoot. This was an especially unique shoot as Tassia and Leo are studying for a year in Toronto but live in Brazil. I am honoured they choose me to document their engagement while they are here. They were engaged a few months before coming to Toronto to our cold and frigid winter. They head back in November just in time for their sunny and warm January wedding (how lucky to live near the equator)! An interesting culture fact: both the fiancé and fiancée wear ring bands when they are engaged on the right hand and then move them to the left hand when they are married.
They are both lawyers but had a change of heart and decided to pursue something they are passionate about. For Leo it’s cooking Italian cuisine and hopefully opening up a restaurant in Brazil. For Tassia it’s baking – she tells me she specializes in ‘naked’ cakes which is a yummy new trend for event cakes – especially weddings. Tassia is so sweet and offered to bake me a cake in thanks – and it was amazing :)
These two first met at a party, saw each other from across the room and then Leo came over to talk with Tassia. These two hit it off right away and have been creating memories ever since. They are so equally mesmerized by each other and share a deep intimacy but also such a light-hearted humourous side, they can make each other laugh in seconds. They were naturals in front of the camera and their warm and loving nature was shown effortlessly.
Our engagement shoot started as we walked through Center Island – then to the beach to have some wine, then had a formal outfit change and ended the shoot at the iconic Toronto skyline for sunset. We couldn’t have planned it more perfectly. We had so much fun we are going to have a Fall engagement shoot as well – I can’t wait to document their love in the beautiful fall colours of Ontario.
